Overview

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is an employee-owned federal government contractor supporting national priority programs through our strategic solutions in the areas of Information Technology, Test & Evaluation, Program Mission Support, Engineering & Analysis, and Training.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate the operation of CUMMINS, MTU and / or CATAPILLER marine engines
  • Research and develop ship propulsion systems, to include, but not limited to: diesels, gas turbines, diesel-electric systems, propellers, rudders, thrusters, gears, shafts, bearings, seals, noise, vibration, and interfaces with dynamic positioning systems, and apply to applicable design and requirements.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Design, develop and evaluate operation of marine vessels, shipboard propulsion machinery
  • Review and develop technical data packages
  • Provide oversight on development of machinery arrangements
  • Conduct and oversee trade studies.
  • Provide knowledge of ABS, NVR, and commercial ship design rules and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineer or related field or High School Diploma and 6+ years of additional experience
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience on US Coast Guard or US Navy Ships

  • Experience with MTU diesel engines including machinery control systems.

  • MTU 1B dongle certification.

    • Minimum MTU CE3 certification (1B dongle) for ECS-UNI/ADEC-UNI, ECU-7, SAM, MCS5, and RCS5.
