Overview

Provide technical support to the Office of Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) to conduct rigorous mission engineering activities to identify and prioritize investments in capabilities with the potential to meet current and future warfighting needs, close warfighting gaps, and enable Joint Force interoperability and integration. In addition to harness modeling and simulation (M&S) tools and advanced techniques to develop and analyze critical Joint Mission Engineering Threads (METs) / “Kill Webs” in operational scenarios, enabling DoD leaders to make informed technology investment decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Experience in operations research with a focus on mission engineering, systems engineering, or operational analysis.
  • Experience conducting operational or mission analysis and trade-off studies to inform decision-making for capability development, system design, technology investments, or maturation of concepts of operations (CONOPS) or concepts of employment (CONEMPS).
  • Experience in a leadership or deputy role managing cross-functional teams in analyzing complex engineering and operational problems.
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating complex technical findings to senior leadership, technical or operational experts, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing terms of references for analyses or studies; analyzing mission architectures/threads; understanding the use of mission modeling tools (e.g., CAMEO, AFSIM); interpreting M&S outputs; or preparing briefings and strategic recommendations for decision makers.
  • Experience working with Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, Military Services, Intelligence Community or Office of Secretary of Defense organizations.

Qualifications

  • 15 years minimum to include:
  • 7 years of experience in operations research with a focus on mission engineering, systems engineering, or operational analysis.
    5 years of experience conducting operational or mission analysis and trade-off studies to inform decision-making for capability development, system design, technology investments, or maturation of concepts of operations (CONOPS) or concepts of employment (CONEMPS).
    5 years of experience in a leadership or deputy role managing cross-functional teams in analyzing complex engineering and operational problems.
    5 years of demonstrated experience in communicating complex technical findings to senior leadership, technical or operational experts, and non-technical stakeholders.
    3 years of demonstrated experience in developing and executing terms of references for analyses or studies; analyzing mission architectures/threads; understanding the use of mission modeling tools (e.g., CAMEO, AFSIM); interpreting M&S outputs; or preparing briefings and strategic recommendations for decision makers.
    3 years of experience working with Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, Military Services, Intelligence Community or Office of Secretary of Defense organizations.
    Education:
    Bachelors: Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, Computer Science, Management Science, Physics; OR possess a certificate from advanced Professional Military Education relevant to Military Training and/or Military Planning
