Overview

Responsibilities

  • Monitors research, analysis, design, development, test, or manufacturing operations. 
  • Provides oversight direction, management, and coordination of a significant technical effort.
  • The incumbent serves as a representative for NAVAIR, interfacing with headquarters, contractors, and other government activities involved in the program.
  • Furnishes technical advice and assistance to gov’t leads. Reports on technical direction of the program, planning and scheduling work, reporting results, progress, schedule adherence and overall accomplishments of the work.
  • Reviews data, reports, studies, designs, design documentation, tests, or equipment to determine conformance with contract technical requirements.
  • Conducts technical reviews to determine the acceptability of changes to contract required services or equipment and/or determines the usability of items not meeting the requirements of the contract.
  • Furnishes advice to the government on technical matters.

General Day-to-Day tasks:

  1. Providing direct systems engineering/scientific support to and advise on engineering requirements, technical issues, and risks related to software development.
  2. Providing technical oversight and support strategic software planning.
  3. Serving as a hardware/software technical interface to Computer Scientist/engineering community on related software engineering activities and issues.
  4. Providing real-time access to SMEs for problem assessment and resolution.
  5. Providing software engineering technical support and representation
  6. Providing technical oversight into the Program Increment (PI) priority workloads.
  7. Providing concurrence, if applicable, on contractor proposed changes to processes and Software (SW) development plans.

Critical Tasks:

  1. Performs computer science, data science, operations research or other professional scientific work involved with the scientific aspects in the development and application of mathematical theories, methods and operations in research and engineering, test and evaluation and logistics functions.
  2. Identifies and solves a wide variety of complex problems with many competing objectives, variables and constraints.
  3. Delivers optimized technical solutions that are balanced to achieve required technical performance within cost, schedule and technology constraints.
  4. Functions as a member of an integrated team/group providing technical guidance to a technical workforce and meeting customer requirements for products and/or services.
  5. Coordinate small to medium segments of a project/program. Apply tools such as but not limited to: Risk Management, Configuration Management, Data Management, Trade-off Analysis/Trade Studies, Technical Performance Measurement, Technical Reviews, Modeling & Simulation or Earned Value Management.

 

Qualifications

  • Technical 4-yr degree and 1+ years of experience (see below).
  • Experience in engineering or computer science with an emphasis on software engineering/development of software systems.
  • Experience in software requirements allocation, design, software process management, open architecture principles, software integration and test.
  • Knowledge of processes for software system design, test and interoperability, planning and management.
  • Knowledge of military avionics systems, components and software and related design attributes. (highly desired)
  • Knowledge of systems engineering procedures, processes, practices and tools as related to Avionics and Weapons systems and technology. (highly desired)
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate at all levels within an organization, with effective interpersonal skills and an ability to resolve conflicting views and information. 
  • Active or ability to obtain a Secret clearance, must be a US citizen. 

 

Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $77,600.00/Yr. - USD $129,600.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
