Responsibilities

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer with 5–7 years of hands-on experience to support secure infrastructure operations for a classified DoD customer. This role combines core network engineering and cybersecurity responsibilities.

 

The ideal candidates should have demonstrated experience with Cisco network administration, infrastructure troubleshooting, and the ability to contribute effectively to both independent tasks and collaborative mission support.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Configure and troubleshoot Cisco routers and switches to enforce secure and reliable access across classified networks.

  • Install, administer, and support enterprise LAN and WAN infrastructure, including routine performance optimization and daily health monitoring.

  • Support remote users through equipment setup and troubleshooting of Layer 2 and Layer 3 connectivity issues.

  • Troubleshoot Cisco infrastructure, VPN, and VMware-related connectivity issues.

  • Monitor system logs and backups to ensure proper operation and timely completion of scheduled jobs.

  • Assist in software installations, upgrades, license management, and application of authorized security patches.

  • Manage user accounts and maintain access control policies in accordance with cybersecurity best practices.

  • Contribute to incident response efforts, vulnerability mitigation, and identification of potential security risks.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and vendor representatives to address technical and operational challenges.

  • Participate in documentation of network procedures and operational standards.

  • Work independently or with minimal supervision to manage assigned tasks and support overall network security posture.

 

Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline (additional years of relevant experience considered in lieu of a degree)
  • 5–7 years of experience supporting enterprise networks in DoD, federal, or highly regulated environments
  • Current CCNA certification (required)
  • Current DoD 8140 IAT Level III certification (e.g., CASP+ CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP or Associate, GCED, GCIH, CCSP, or CISM)
  • Proficiency in configuring and maintaining Cisco networking infrastructure
  • Experience supporting or implementing the Risk Management Framework (RMF) in accordance with DoD and DoN cybersecurity standards
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management, patch compliance, and information assurance controls

Additional Capabilities:

Experience in the following areas is not required but may be utilized in this role depending on mission needs:

  • Experience with Solaris or Linux/UNIX-based systems
  • Installation and configuration of intrusion detection systems, firewalls, or other perimeter defense technologies
  • Participation in continuity of operations planning, including failover testing and system availability documentation
  • Cross-functional experience integrating networks with broader enterprise systems

 

Training & Development:

  • Candidates without Solaris or systems engineering experience will be considered if they demonstrate a willingness to train and adapt.
  • This position supports growth across network, systems, and security domains.

 

Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $91,600.00/Yr. - USD $153,000.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
