Overview

Responsibilities

As a NASA Operations Engineer (Journeyman) with AMERICAN SYSTEMS you will have the opportunity to do the following:

  • Ensure airworthiness of aircraft and its systems where NASA AFRC has responsibility.
  • Prepare documentation for procurement, Statement of Work, definition of spares, and Peripheral product documentation.
  • Conduct periodic work schedule meetings with engineering and flight operations personnel.
  • Develop or assist in the development of flight vehicle and UAS documentation.
  • Evaluate operational changes and modifications to ensure changes are consistent with operational capability.
  • Participate in the system safety process and implementing mitigations to assure airworthiness and mission success.
  • Perform airworthiness tests and analysis directed by Project or Flight Operations Directorate.
  • Perform and/or support briefings, preliminary and critical design reviews, peer reviews, and airworthiness processes.
  • Develop, review, and implement test plans, test procedures, and checklists to facilitate aircraft operations.
  • Monitor mission performance during test flights, and maintain records.
  • Maintain Aircraft Configuration management.
  • Support NASA aircraft safety processes and follow safe practices and rules contained in the Safety and Health plan.
  • Report status to Senior Technical Lead and/or Task Focal Point.
  • Prepare and manage Certificate of Authorization (COAs).Perform airspace coordination within restricted airspace and National Airspace.
  • Participate in Operations Working Groups (OWGs), Mission Rule Working Groups (MRWGs), Systems Safety Working Groups (SSWGs).Perform work in accordance with NASA ISO AS9100 procedures and applicable regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with 0-5 years of experience OR Masters degree with 0-3 years of experience.
  • Able to work a 9/80 WORK SCHEDULE (alternating Fridays off) with core hours between 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Travel requirements: some travel is anticipated both locally and long distance by car or plane
  • Ability to work onsite daily is required and part-time telework is approved based on project needs
  • Applicants with clearances with be given preference
